5.1 Minutes of Fairlie Community Board Meeting - 13 September 2018 |

Matters arising from the minutes: Pauline Jackson asked if it would be nicer to replace the conifers on the green rather than cut them down. Garth Nixon said removing the conifers would give space for a nearby Ash Tree to grow. Discussion followed and it was agreed to look at re-planting in the area, but not on the same spot. The chairman noted that the diagonal parking lines on Gray Street were not working well. He has received feedback from truck drivers that the turning line is too tight. Discussion took place on options to improve this. The chairman asked for the roading manager to join the meeting and Scott McKenzie joined the meeting at 4.45pm. Mr McKenzie said the road line contractors were due back in the area in November. The chairman asked for the yellow lines to be taken out, and also to replace angle parking with parallel parking.
The chairman also asked for changes to the parking area outside the shops to help address a bottleneck. Pauline Jackson would like to survey the shops and restaurants before making changes. The flow of traffic through this carpark was discussed. The turning tightness of the intersection between the two state highways in Fairlie was raised. Mr McKenzie said he had discussed this with NZTA and they had a camera monitoring the intersection. Pauline Jackson asked about 30 minute signs being taken down at Regent Street. This was done at the request of the hairdresser on Regent Street and she will provide feedback to Mr McKenzie. Regarding the path from McLeans Park to the cemetery - Mr Nixon is awaiting a price for this work. |

Pauline Jackson asked about the Peace Avenue trees that had died. Mr Nixon said there was a plan to replace these. She also asked about gardens in the domain. There were some that were overgrown and not watered. Mr Nixon will follow up. Mr Nixon asked the members to think about projects for the coming year. He suggested creating the walkway from McLeans Park to the cemetery, shelters, and a frisbee golf course. Discussion was held on the need for a person to champion the frisbee golf course, and how it could be funded partly from the land subdivision reserve. Damon Smith suggested starting with one course instead of the two that were suggested, and seeing how it was received by the public. The village green was considered the best location because of visibility. Mr Nixon offered to investigate further. The chairman would like to put something in the Fairlie Accessible regarding this. He would like to get something going before Christmas. |
The Meeting closed at 5.33pm.
